I am doing this in english because I am reading one utterly funny and equally sad book ( a long way down by nick hornby) and therefore I m in the english-mode. And I have to think about saha, who keeps asking me, what I read books for. And I tell you, you can find thruths in books. Just as everywhere else. And you can find yourself in books and you can connect to people because books are written by people and so on.
But: I want to talk about your “Money” and “Being a Servant”-part.
You know that I do not only love books, but films just as much. And here applies the same thing.
You can find thruth in films, just as you can find yourself and connect whith people. And your Money-thing reminds me of one of my favourite films, which is called “layer cake”. The title is metaphoric and refers to all those layers of truth you can see (you dont have to, but if you chose to, you can see them) and at least I chose to interpret the title this way. There are as many layers of reality, or “truths” as there are people. At least.
So one scene I particularly love in this film is: one of the gangsters is showing how to take apart a gun to a fellow gangster (and how to put it together again). And this one says: “it looks like you can do this in your sleep”. And gangster No1 answers like:”well I can. In fact, I do this as a kind of meditation. I keep the front of my mind busy, so that the rest of my mind is free to roam over a mundane task.” I love “mundane task”. In this case “mundane task” might be, to figure out, how to kill a person most efficiantly.
Anyway.
What I like to think is, that you can chose to be a gangster. And earn your living, by killing other individuals. Though for the above mentioned gangster, it might be his passion, and as a side-effect, he receives money, which gives him an opportinuty to live quite comfortably.
What my person is concerned: I am not free of being programmed to think, that one must work for one’s living. True enough. But just as well, I did chose the way I live. Finding myself a job, I go to everyday (or many days) relieves me from the burdon of having to DECIDE every day, what I shall do. How I will spend my day. It relieves me from the burdon of asking myself everyday, who will feed us, me and the kids. It comes quite handy to me, that a certain amount of money is given to me every month, just because I go to work, spend a certain amount of time there. With people who are quite entertaining at times. Not always, but then who is. I am actually quite content, with the way I live. To make an appearance at work, and keeping the front of my mind busy, gives me the opportunity, to let the rest of my mind wander. Not always. So I picked any easy way. But I picked it.
